We are making incredible progress in the fight to protect our waterways, but we need your help to keep the pressure on.
SOLAR’s official parliamentary petition, titled “Ensure new sewage treatment infrastructure meets higher standards, as in the EU”, is surging. We are now nearly a third of the way to our 100,000 target, a milestone that will ensure this crucial issue is considered for a parliamentary debate. (The government has already been forced to respond after passing the 10,000-signature mark, but we cannot stop here.)
Right now, this campaign is capturing national attention as one of the most popular petitions in the UK. We are demanding that the government review regulations and stop outdated schemes that pump toxic “forever chemicals” into our rivers while risking massive, avoidable increases to household water bills. Aligning with higher international standards is essential to safeguard public health and protect all UK water bodies for future generations. It will also mean that Thames Water’s proposal for the Direct River Abstraction at Teddington are deemed to be non compliant and an out of date dirty water solution
